Digital Media Undergraduate Certificate
Social media and the internet have changed the way we live, work, and communicate. Employers are seeking workers who are equipped with and ready to use these skills in business, marketing, and health communications.
Program Overview
The digital media certificate offered by the School of Communications is for students seeking knowledge and skills related to digital marketing and communications career opportunities. You will explore social media strategies, analytics, and public relations and advertising campaign management, as well as the specialized study of content creation or innovation.
Anyone admitted to Grand Valley as a degree-seeking student may complete this certificate.

Admissions
For new students, visit the Admissions website for undergraduate requirements. Upon acceptance and for current students:
- Declare your certificate via myBanner (Login to Banner Self-Service, click on Student, Student Records, Add a Certificate or Badge to your Program, Select the appropriate certificate from the drop-down list, and click Submit)
- Departmental approval is required. If denied, an email will be sent to your GVSU student email.
- Speak with the appropriate certificate coordinator to ensure criteria are being met (you will be able to track your progress toward the certificate in myPath as well!)
- Once you are done with the requirements, apply to receive the certificate via myBanner.
- Once the completion of your certificate has been verified, the certificate will be posted to your student record and will be viewable on your transcript.
Coursework
The digital media certificate is comprised of 15 credits. All students will complete three core courses for nine credits:
- CAP 330 - Social Media Strategy
- CAP 331 - Social Media Analytics
- CAP 415 - Social Media Campaigns
You will select either the digital content creation track or the innovation and strategy track to complete a minimum of six additional credits.
The digital content creation track includes the study of media production, copywriting, graphic design basics, and more.
The innovation and strategy track includes the study of ethics, game culture, digital creativity, international communications systems, and more.
